Parent/Child Dedication
Dedication Services are held 2-3
times a year during the Sunday
Morning service time. If you are
interested in dedicating your child,
or finding out more information
about Parent/Child Dedication,
please email Greta Nelson,
Children’s Ministry Director, at
greta@newhopecambridge.org or
call the church office at
763.552.7979 and we can answer your
questions.
A Parent/Child Dedication class will
also be provided prior to each
dedication. This class will allow
you to:
-
Review and understand the
commitment you are making
-
Ask additional questions
regarding the purpose of a child
dedication
-
Obtain an outline of the
procedures for the day of the
dedication
In dedicating our children to the
Lord, we are really committing
ourselves as parents to the Biblical
task of raising them in a way that
is pleasing to God. Families
are strengthened when they publicly
dedicate themselves to love, nurture
and train our precious children in
the principles of Christian living.
Our promise, or covenant, with God
is a very solemn and serious
commitment that we should not take
lightly. In our Parent/Child
Dedication Service we are promising
the Lord that with His help we
intend to…
The Parent/Child Dedication is a
special time to declare before
others that you have given your
child over to the Lord. As parents,
you are committing yourselves in the
presence of many witnesses to be the
parents that God commands and
desires you to be. It is a public
commitment that you as a parent will
raise your child under the Lordship
of Christ and encourage your child
to one day make a personal
commitment to Jesus Christ.
The Dedication Service is an act in
which parents give their child back
to God, recognizing that the child
is the Lord’s gift to them.
-
It does not gain any merit in
heaven or even salvation for
either the parent or the child;
-
Nor is it a substitute for
baptism, which requires a
personal faith in Jesus Christ
The
dedication of children is a precious
moment for our church family as
well. As you present both your child
and yourselves in public commitment,
the church family is reminded of the
importance of children and our
shared responsibility in their
spiritual growth. Because the church
is an extended family to your child
and children are our future leaders,
we as a church, are committed to
supporting and partnering with you
in raising your child in a way that
is honoring to God.
