From August 2nd-9th, a team of 14 people from New Hope Community Church made the first of hopefully many trips to the Northwest Angle and Windigo Island. The purpose of the trip was to establish relationships with the Native Americans, carry out Vacation Bible School in both locations as well as to encourage our new BGC missionary contact to that area, Kenny Danielson and his family. Our team consisted of Pieuw, Juanita, Kish and Thessa Daniels, Cindy Crabtree and George Falconer who served at the Northwest Angle and Bill, Cherie, Jamey, Kelly, Megan and Katelyn Berg and Kim Mosman and her grandson, Austin who were on Windigo Island. We  held VBS on Monday through Thursday which included lessons on the lives of Joseph and Moses, puppet shows, crafts, games and memory verses. Each of the locations had about 12-15 children in attendance. We found the children to be very accepting, curious and creative. At Windigo Island, where having teams visit is very new, we did not expect to get to have much interaction with the adults, however, we were pleasantly surprised to be able to visit with ladies each evening while the teens and some adults played volleyball. Also, one evening we invited the elder of the Island, Sam for dinner, which he gratefully accepted. He told us many of the old stories of his people, the Ojibwa. We became well acquainted with the family next to the schoolhouse where we were staying. One afternoon, the mother of some of the children baked their traditional Indian bread for us, and the next day, sent over a birthday cake and gift for one of our kids. Overall, it was a great experience. Everything went so smoothly and better than we ever imagined. We appreciate all the prayers of the New hope family. We definitely sensed God's presence. We can't wait to go back!
